blue bird tapping on several windows around the house.?
June 6th, 2010
I had a Western Bluebird tap on the window by my computer repeatedly this morning then it moved to the kitchen window and tapped for a while then it went around to the side of the house and tapped on the glass door. Now I know it probably just saw its reflection or something but I couldnt help but thinkn of my grandmother when she was alive she would have told me it meant something. I was wondering if someone from her era (she was born around 1910) or who knows someone from her era would tell me what they think it means just for fun. Thanks!

What it means is, the bluebird sees his reflection and to him it’s an intruder. He’s trying to make it leave.
Around my house, Cardinals, Mockingbirds and the occasional Catbird does it.
It sounds like the bird is a male, fighting his own reflection to protect nesting territory. This behavior should cease when the mating period is done.
So, put a fake owl outside by your window if you don’t want him there. But, it’s cute lol =)
The bird is probably a male. He sees his reflection and thinks it is another bird. Be careful, sometime they will fly into windows and either injure themselves badly or instantly die (unfortunately they will probably die soon after if they do survive the fall). If you want this to stop, cut out a hawk silhouette and tape it to the window.
